Jo Blogg

The artist is a woman of unusual habits and sculptor of peculiar objects. Her interest in jigsaw art, dots, circles, rabbits and repetition are all indicators of her loosely eccentric tendencies. Refusing to be pigeonholed, Jo makes whatever takes her fancy in whatever media fits her concept, often combining paint, print, sculpture and found object, experimenting with negative, multiples and layering to add new dimensions to what appear to be a seemingly complete works to start with.

Exhibiting in galleries throughout New Zealand in both solo and group shows, Blogg can always be relied upon to deliver the unexpected.

Eddie Budd

Eddie is an accomplished artist who has exhibited widely.  His work captures a unique vision of the world and utilises a raw talent uninhibited by convention.

He says, “Art can be a quest for completion.  A way of finding hope in what seems to be hopeless.  A defiant response to the ever intrusive and often ferocious snarl of the black dog commonly referred to as madness.

Fane Flaws

Artist Fane Flaws has produced a tremendous variety of art throughout his illustrious career. Found object, construction, sculpture, paint, print, drawing and graphic art have all been complemented and enhanced by his chronicled award winning work in the music, publishing, animation and television genres, a creative pedigree linking back to Blerta days.

The artist currently works with paint, print and sculptural assemblage, his ‘mark-maker’ methodology embodying the kind of uninhibited attitude that professes a humorous yet cunningly poignant employment of both material and subject. Flaw’s artwork remains largely intuitive – free of intellectual constraint and in his own words are often, ‘”meaningless musings which somehow manage to tell their own stories”.

David Guerin

I regard myself as an imagist - I make images. I draw all the time (like a drawing a day for the past 30 years!!!) and I am open to using any media on any surface in order to satisfy my urge to draw. For me, drawings can often be three-dimensional and that is why I have enjoyed the challenge of decorating the Mosaic wine box with what I hope have become my trademark poutokomanawa/land marker male and female figures.

I enjoy the interplay of various native timbers, which contrast with the industrialised finish of the pine box wood, just as I enjoy finding/fossicking/poosling the sticks and kauri casting patterns and then sawing and whittling them into varying shapes in order to animate, colour and populate flat surfaces.

Tony Harrington

I was born and bred in Hawkes Bay. Growing up as a Pakeha New Zealander I attended a typically bi-cultural provincial school. Through my schooling, friends and extended family as well as time travelling overseas, I have developed a great respect and appreciation of Maori culture. The imagery in my work is influenced by traditional Maori art forms. Rural and coastal kiwi pastimes are represented along with pop culture and songs. These are often reinterpreted to create a greater appreciation of our cultural landscape.

Alan Toa

“I have been drawing all my life. My earliest memory was of winning a competition at school. I enjoyed the detail that pen and pencil gave me, creating intricate worlds within worlds, creating my reality on paper.

My drawings remained private to me until I came to Mosaic. I never imagined anyone would be interested in them. I have since had two successful solo exhibitions and several combined exhibitions, each exhibition expanding in use of media and inspiration. My art is a way I use to escape from the darkness, the more you look the more you find hidden meaning.”

Alan is currently a student at RealPeople @ Mosaic.
