In the making of this work, the word Heretaunga was imprinted into the wet clay, the tiles cut, carved, dried, oxide added, the tiles bisque then glaze fired using new glazes developed during recent experimentation. These and corrugated tiles have been reassembled to resemble the patchwork pattern of the Heretaunga Plains.

The three maunga that dominate Heretaunga Plains and their signposts rise above this patterning.
